SONY 50MM 1.8 vs ZEISS 55MM 1.8: Lens Review and Comparison on Sony A6000
In this video I will be reviewing / comparing the Sony SEL50F18 50mm f/1.8 OSS lens with the Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 lens on the Sony A6000.

BUY ZEISS 55MM F/1.8 ON AMAZON (affiliate)
geni.us/zeiss55mm18
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When comparing these two lenses, the color quality and sharpness is better on the Zeiss 55mm. But how much better is this lens really?
DxO Mark scored the Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 as slightly better than the Sony SEL50F18 on the Sony A6000. You would expect the lens to be much better, considering it costs about 3-4 times as much as the Sony 50mm lens.
So how about autofocus? Zeiss 55 is built for full frame cameras, so its autofocus performance suffers somewhat on the Sony A6000. In my test shoots, I missed more shots with the Zeiss 55mm than I usually do with the 50mm lens.
If you're on a tight budget, I recommend the Sony 50mm f/1.8. But if you have more disposable income and want to play with the Zeiss lens, that's fine too.

For street activities, prefer gold or ultramax. For serious photo: like family photo always choose lowest grain non odd iso film. Like proimage100 or portra400

"I don't develop myself" should be in the title or within first 20 seconds of every film photography related YT video not to waste people's time. We cannot ignore the impact of developer. Hp5+ just sings in Ilfotec DDX, but I highly doubt that commercial lab will develop in such expensive chemistry. If you don't like grain, you can go with XTOL. if you like contrasty look and deep blacks go with DDX, HC-110 will be something in the middle. For absolute "classic", "old masters" look use Kodak D76....

Nice informative video, I’ve just grabbed the camera and can’t wait to shoot my first roll with it! 😊 Just one thing if it wasn’t already mentioned in other comments, the first version of the AE prism actually works also on Pro II cameras, I have one, it is just a little less “sophisticated” (no half shutter speeds and no over-under exposure arrows on the right of the viewfinder)

I went through this decision in 1990 and ended up buying the FM2 for the reason of better information in the finder when using manual-exposure. With the F3 you can't tell if you are 1/3 of a stop of 3 stops, with the FM2 you'll know. Next was flash with a standard-hotshoe on the FM2 and much more practical synch-speed. That sealed the deal and I never had any regrets as someone who only occasionally used his photography for his work or to sell it.

  • @macbookdieter
    @macbookdieter 4 місяці тому

I’m sure you are aware by now, but the flash sync is 1/20 not 1/30

The FM2 also has more camera shake . Shutter causing shake at 1/60 it’s ok at 1/125. F3 is ok at 1/60 no shake.

It was not a hard decision for me because the F3 had one of the most important features I needed -- interchangeable viewfinders. Even the Miranda Sensorex that I was using before my Nikon F, F2, F3, and F4 had interchangeable viewfinders. Since I did a lot of medical/scientific photography, I really needed to be able to use a waist level viewfinder when mounting my camera to a microscope or a telescope. I needed to be able to use a sportsfinder while wearing protective goggles. I needed to use a magnified view finder when shooting macro subjects with a copy stand.

Does it make a huge difference if you want to use the lenses for video instead of photography? I have a crop sensor canon, and I’m thinking of getting the 50mm f1.4>>>that would give me great closeup video footage right?

    • @jamietheartist6910

The camera is quite solidly made, but there may be problems with overlapping frames. Therefore, you need to insert the film tightly, as indicated on video, AND DO NOT THROW the film rewind trigger, but carefully return it with your finger. Otherwise there may be frame overlap. Have this camera. A good choice to try medium format.

Apparently 100mm is considered long these days. I am curious if you have ever tried the Canon FD 135mm f2.5 lens? Back in the day we considered a 135 to really be THE portrait lens. Especially with a fast aperture you had very shallow depth of field that really let your subject stand out from the background.
